Where We Came From:


As a student at UC Berkeley, Chris Wampler developed a simple automated chat personality that quickly passed the Turing Test. After working with a leading live chat provider, Wampler realized the value of his automated chat technology and partnered with serial entrepreneur, Tom Kogler, to launch UpSellit in 2005. Dubbed SmartAgent®, the proprietary automated chat technology was used to upsell customers and engage abandoning site visitors.

Over the next six years, UpSellit focused its attention on reducing site abandonment and subsequently launched email, mobile and survey solutions all designed to increase revenue on a pay for performance business model. With a client-list 200 partners long, and backed by a 30 person team, UpSellit proves its value with a wide range of verticals on a daily basis.

New Automated Chat Release Boasts Dynamic Knowledge for Improved Customer Recovery
January 17, 2012

UpSellit, the leader in customer recovery automated chat solutions, announces the 2012 release of SmartAgent® chat technology. While the inclusion of UpSellit's new Dynamic Knowledge is by far the most significant update, UpSellit's partners will also note enhancements to SmartAgent's vocabulary, personality and engagement methods. Averaging about 50,000 conversations per day, SmartAgent automated chat engages site visitors mid-abandonment in order to address customer concerns and answer frequently asked questions for intelligent and effective customer recovery.

UpSellit Co-Founder Travels to Africa to Assist Orphanage

Chris Wampler, the co-founder of UpSellit and developer of SmartAgent automated chat, traveled to Uganda to present a personal donation and lead a team in renovating several dormitories in order to improve the lives of the 100+ orphans who school and live at Bethel Orphanage. While there is an estimated 2.5 million orphaned children in Uganda, this was just one small accomplishment -- but UpSellit is impressed by the initiative and the significant impact made on the children and plans to continue supporting Bethel Orphanage.

"I have been dreaming of seeing Africa my whole life, but I did not want to go there without finding a way to give back," said Wampler who traveled for three weeks visiting various countries in Africa. "Uganda is a beautiful place with incredibly friendly people ? but many visitors to the country never see the poorer or less fortunate areas. It is very easy to make a large impact in peoples' lives and show that the rest of the world cares."

Landlocked in East Africa, Uganda has been consumed by decades of war, the AIDS pandemic, and internal conflicts. Without orphanages like Bethel Orphanage Centre protecting them, orphaned children in Uganda are forced to sleep in city streets and travel across the country in large nomadic groups in order to avoid abduction by the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA). Because of the charity performed by these mostly independent orphanages, orphaned children are allowed the opportunity for permanence and education in a safe environment that nurtures kindness and personal development.

Wampler concluded, "You hear this all the time, but it really is true that each and every one of us can make a big difference in the lives of these children. A little bit goes a very long way and has a broad and lasting effect on the lives of these unfortunate children. While I realize not everyone is able to go to Africa and volunteer, I encourage you to reach out and find an organization like Save the Children that allows anyone to make a lasting difference."
